Frequently asked questions

What clothes do I need for Physical Activity?

The required Physical Education uniform consists of:

- any t-shirt (not a school polo)

- any athletic shorts or pants (not school khakis or slacks)

     * Please ensure that bottoms are not too short or too tight, as is standard for normal free dress policy.

- any athletic shoes with laces (no flats, Sperry's, Tom's, boots, heels, Jordan's, etc)

When the weather is below 60 degrees, long sleeves are allowed.  Otherwise, there should be no hoodies or jackets worn to class.

All clothing should meet the normal school expectations of appropriate symbols and words.

What happens if I forget my clothes?

We've all been there - in a rush out the door, in the morning, PE uniform gets left in the dryer, or shoes are left at the foot of the bed.  Bummer!

There is grace for a slip of the mind.  Proper uniform is necessary for top performance.  Appropriate shoes protect the feet; appropriate shorts or pants allow for adequate movement potential; appropriate shirt also allows for adequate mobility but also proper hygiene and modesty.

In a four day week, students should have the full PE uniform at least 3 of the 4 days of physical activity.  If pieces of the uniform are missing beyond this, points will be deducted from the character grade.  If PE uniform is missed more than twice per week for 3 weeks, parents/guardians will be contacted.  If not resolved in the next week, detentions will be issued.

How often do we run the mile?

The mile run is simply an assessment to show how our hard work is paying off.  In order to see growth, we will include the 1-mile run assessment approximately once each grading period, with the exception of the first grading period when we will run 2-3 to develop an appropriate baseline from which we'll measure all other runs in the future for each student.

What are we doing today?

Complete 30 burpees without stopping, then we'll gladly share with you the activities of the day.  Or simply read the whiteboard.

How do I make up a workout I missed?

Follow the instructions on the Missing Workout form found at the top of the Student Resources page (or click on the  file icon to right).  This should be completed within 2 weeks of the absence or clearance to return to physical education class.

What if I have an illness or injury?

If your ailment does not require a doctor, a parent note will excuse you for 1 day but the activities of that day will need to be made up (see "How do I make up a workout I missed?")

If your ailment requires you to see a doctor, please bring a copy of the doctor's note to your coach/teacher.  It is helpful if your doctor includes the length of time you should be excused from physical activity in class.  If this is included, then no make-up work will be necessary.
